Resources to Occupy Your Time During Social Distancing

Tried to keep a somewhat normal routine working from home.

Our company, Milo’s, has offered workout classes every Tuesday and Thursday for 45 minutes and a Yoga class every Wednesday for an hour via Zoom. This has really helped as well since I want to snack more when I am working at home. :grinning:

As a remote worker I’m finding it challenging to have my nine year old son at home. I do make sure to take a break at some point and enjoy this daily story with him. They’re hilarious and read by the author. https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/?fbclid=IwAR1ADTzIXl1XikkqW4hnlMXgJll8iJFytmmS0XZiT8GMC2HS4G8soubdKLI
He releases one a day, but the past week is available as well. Just having a few minutes where we can laugh at ridiculous things is proving helpful.

GoodLife has launched Les Mills at home! If you’re a member (even if you’re not paying dues because the facilities are closed) you can log in and try that class that maybe you were too embarrassed to attempt in a crowded room!

Les Mills is awesome! Many of us at Prophix are members at GoodLife so we have definitely been taking advantage of the online fitness classes!

I really enjoy having lunches with my family and spending time together during the day when I am usually at the office.

Just for fun- my sister and her husband put together this film of a new product our business rolled out just before lockdown. Some of the footage was actually taken when we were already isolating, and luckily we could do this observing all necessary distancing measures. The kids had so much fun doing it, we were very happy for the chance to play-test some new equipment. My daughter is the girl in the green jacket & dress and pink boots.

Masks are mandatory here in the Northwest.

I have started sewing again. It all started with making masks for friends and family. I have made over 200 now and I give them away to those who need them. Pinterest is a great for occupying my evenings. Sprucing up the backyard since not travelling a whole lot. Video chatting with grand kids has been awesome.

Now that the weather is warmer, I am spending 90% of my time away from work in my garden. I plant enough tomatoes to make some decent salsa in the fall and enough cucumbers for bread and butter pickles. My dogs also love fresh veggies!

We definitely go for lots of walks but I also have been sewing fruits and vegetables by hand for my son’s market.

Podcasts! I have an iPhone so I use the Apple Podcasts app, which is great.

Here are some of my favourite channels with a recommended episode:

STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW (SYSK): This channel is my favourite. I love listening to these guys! Their dialogue is always light and playful, and they get off topic at least twice but it’s very amusing. They talk about everything… from where barcodes came from, to historical events, to barefoot running…
Update - In light of what’s been happening in the news lately, I highly recommend “The Tulsa ‘Race Riots’”.

The Joe Rogan Experience:
#1383 Malcolm Gladwell” - awesome podcast that talks about Gladwell’s newest book, Talking to Strangers. Fantastic book if you are looking for a good read.

Hidden Brain NPR: If you like psychology, then you may like this channel.
Did That Really Happen” - very interesting episode that talks about how our memories are easily contaminated, studies that show situations where our memory fails us, and ways to make it better.

Shameless the TV series. It is horrible and addicting. Wish i had something more healthy but that show really does help me get away from it all.

Ok - shameful plug but as an educational facility we’ve put a number of things online - activities, blogs, podcasts. Check them out at https://www.memphismuseums.org/museum-to-go/

My mom got me started on a game on my phone. Now I am addicted to it on my free time.

I’ve picked up embroidery. It is stress relieving because I have to focus on the task. I’ve also been cooking a lot with my significant other after work. That has been fun as well

We live in the rocky mountain region. We have spent thousand of miles enjoying the great outdoors with and without people. In nature it is very easy to keep spread out from people.
