Great Tip! I am glad that I learned something new.
In my previous roles as IT systems manager, I generally recommended keeping this option set to prevent automatically downloading images. That’s because most people hate spam, and web-based images is one way spammers can tell theres a real person on the other end of the email you just opened. For those of you that turn on this feature, just be prepared to receive 10x to 100x the number of junk mail that you currently receive.
And since the problem is that your email address becomes known as “active” on the dark web—it takes a while to subside once it is out there. So turning image loading off again helps eventually but it often takes 3-6 months to get spam levels back down to normal.
If you already have a great spam filter, this might be less of a concern for you.
Great tip. An email without the pictures is not an email.
With most of our staff still working remotely and not having instant access to an IT department to help with such issues, this is a great tip to share with my staff.
