May 2022 Tip of the Month: Budgeting via Line Item Schedules

Josh, we have LID required turned on for one of our accounts and it generally works well but has the following side effects to take into consideration:

  1. Can’t import to those accounts, so you have to turn this attribute off before importing, then back on again afterwards. Since this is a model manager operation, it can’t be built into your process—it must be done interactively.

  2. Can’t import the Line Item Details themselves, only the intersection. This means that the line item details will have an amount they can’t account for, so it’s listed as an “unknown balance”.

What I’ve found is that LID works great but it really is an end user feature, not well mixed with importing data from other sources. Where I •do• need a mix, I create two accounts (one for end user entry and one for data from other sources) and roll them into a parent for reporting purposes.

We currently do not use line items in budgeting, but it is good to know that Prophix has this functionality.

We use LID for other data breakdown collection purpose. It is useful but not flexible as the number of columns is fixed, can’t add more columns for additional attributions.

Thanks for sharing. We do use the line item details to add some more colour to the numbers.

This is great, thank you.

Thank you for this tip!

I really like this feature. It will be helpful to keep all budget detail in one data source.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing!

This is a great tip. Thank you!

I can see this being useful for some projects but not all at our organization so setting it by account wouldn’t work for us. I could see it being useful if we could set by account and project.

This is really useful if you only input data in one format but as previously stated it is quite restrictive if you need to add data manually as well as wanting to use the line item schedules.
